Rep. Vince Fong (CA-20) will host two forums for students who are interested in attending a U.S. Service Academy. The first forum will take place in Bakersfield on Saturday, September 28 and the second forum in Clovis on Saturday, October 5. Rep. Fong and local academy liaison officers will discuss the process for applying and receiving a Congressional nomination. Students from 7th grade to 12th grade are encouraged to attend. Washington, D.C. - Earlier this week, Rep. Vince Fong (CA-20) introduced a House resolution in support of Blood Cancer Awareness Month. The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Fong with cosponsors Rep. Kevin Mullin (CA-15), Rep. Jim Costa (CA-21), and Rep. Nanette Barragán (CA-44), recognizes the need for continued education on blood cancer and identifies the opportunities Congress has to support research for early diagnosis and treatment.
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Vince Fong (CA-20) sent a letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom criticizing his unworkable refinery supply mandate that will intentionally raise gas prices and create artificial gasoline shortages. “Governor Newsom’s refinery supply mandate represents a lack of understanding of how energy supply works,” said Rep. Vince Fong (CA-20). “We cannot allow for the Newsom Administration to continue to interfere with the energy market and cost Californians at the pump. It is clear from his unworkable mandates that he cares more about political headlines than actually implementing policies that will provide Californians with reliable and affordable energy.
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Vince Fong (CA-20) and Rep. Andrea Salinas (OR-06) introduced the National Science Foundation Artificial Intelligence Education Act of 2024 (NSF AI Education Act). This bill would allow NSF to award AI scholarships, especially when applied to agriculture, education, and advanced manufacturing. In addition, the bill would establish up to 8 Centers of AI Excellence at community colleges to promote AI education and research.
The NSF AI Education Act was led by Rep. Fong and co-led by Rep. Salinas.

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Vince Fong (CA-20) sent a letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom calling for answers and transparency stemming from a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) recent audit showing lack of fraud control during COVID-19. The audit indicates the failure to properly ensure California taxpayers were getting the emergency relief they needed during a vulnerable time for many people and outlines recommendations for anti-fraud measures.
Washington D.C. – Today, Rep. Vince Fong (CA-20) and Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07) introduced the Strengthening Tracking of Poisonous Tranq Requiring Analyzed National Quantification Act of 2024 (STOP TRANQ Act). This bill will require the annual International Narcotics Control Strategy Report to include an analysis of xylazine or “tranq” trafficking within the country-by-country report.
