Vince Fong with Honor Flight

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Congressman Vince Fong (CA-20) welcomed two Honor Flights to the U.S. Capitol, Central Valley Honor Flight #34, and Kern County Honor Flight #53.

 

Honor Flight is a national nonprofit organization that brings American veterans to Washington, D.C. to honor and celebrate them. Rep. Fong is an honorary board member of Honor Flight Kern County and worked to assist with these trips so hundreds of veterans could visit our nation’s capital and see the memorials built in their honor.

Fong Presents Service Medals

FRESNO, CA – Today, Congressman Vince Fong (CA-20) presented the family of late World War II veteran Staff Sergeant Nels (Chris) Christensen with several military awards he earned in service to the United States.

Staff Sergeant Christensen enlisted from Des Moines, Iowa, and served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 with Troop E, 24th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron. The 24th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron was activated in Great Britain in December 1943 and went on to conduct operations across France, Belgium, and Germany through the cessation of hostilities in May 1945.

Started in 1982, the Congressional Art Competition is an annual contest run by the U.S. House of Representatives where high school students from across the country can showcase their artistic abilities.
