Rep. Vince Fong Introduces House Resolution in Recognition of Blood Cancer Awareness Month
Washington, D.C. - Earlier this week, Rep. Vince Fong (CA-20) introduced a House resolution in support of Blood Cancer Awareness Month. The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Fong with cosponsors Rep. Kevin Mullin (CA-15), Rep. Jim Costa (CA-21), and Rep. Nanette Barragán (CA-44), recognizes the need for continued education on blood cancer and identifies the opportunities Congress has to support research for early diagnosis and treatment.
“I am humbled to introduce this resolution in support of Blood Cancer Awareness Month. It is important to remember the continued work that must be done to fight all types of blood cancer through continued research and development to find cures and new treatments,” said Rep. Fong. “This issue is very near to my heart, as childhood leukemia took my little sister way too soon and I know other families who have been impacted. I want to encourage everyone to take this month to help raise awareness and offer support to those who continue to battle these diseases and their families.”
Blood Cancer Awareness Month is recognized annually in the United States in September. Blood cancer, such as leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes, and myeloproliferative neoplasms, affects over 1.6 million people in the nation, which means every 3 minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with a form of blood cancer.
