Congressman Fong’s Statement on Today’s Assembly Vote on Governor Newsom’s Unworkable and Flawed Refinery Mandate
“Californians are struggling to afford to live and work in Gavin Newsom’s California - and the affordability crisis gets worse each day,” said Rep. Vince Fong (CA-20).
“Gov. Gavin Newsom’s poor energy policies have reduced refinery capacity, increased gas taxes, and limited California oil production - the impact to every Californian is sky high gas prices. Instead of undoing these terrible policies to actually reduce gas prices - Governor Newsom and Democrats in the Assembly - have made things worse. Newsom’s unworkable refinery mandate is going to intentionally increase gas prices and create artificial shortages of gasoline supplies in California, Arizona and Nevada. Newsom is exporting his terrible energy policies to other states which have empirically failed - we as Californians know the result which is higher prices and more economic pain.”
