Congressman Fong Praises DOT Decision to Cancel High-Speed Rail Funding After Oversight Hearing with Secretary Duffy

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Vince Fong (CA-20), as a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, discussed the costly and mismanaged high-speed rail project with Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy. Their exchange took place during an oversight hearing on DOT’s policies, programs, and Fiscal Year 2026 budget request.
Following the hearing, President Trump and Secretary Duffy announced that the DOT will no longer fund this project with federal dollars.
“Thank you, President Trump and Secretary Duffy, for pulling the plug on California’s high-speed rail nightmare and protecting taxpayers,” said Congressman Fong. “This wasteful, mismanaged project is billions over budget and years behind schedule. Now, we can finally reinvest in real infrastructure that actually delivers for Californians.”
During today’s oversight hearing, Congressman Fong raised serious concerns about the lack of accountability surrounding the high-speed rail project and asked Secretary Duffy to invest DOT resources elsewhere and protect hard-earned taxpayer dollars.
