May 15, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Vince Fong (CA-20) took a series of actions to honor Peace Officers Memorial Day and recognize National Police Week, acknowledging the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers and their families in addition to paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

“This Peace Officers Memorial Day, and throughout National Police Week, we honor the heroic men and women who risk their lives daily to serve our communities,” said Congressman Fong. “Our law enforcement officers are the backbone of the safety of our neighborhoods. As we acknowledge the bravery and commitment of those in uniform, we must also pause to remember the selfless officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Their legacy lives on throughout our local communities – places they worked tirelessly to protect – and in the hearts of the families they left behind. I will continue to honor their memory by fighting for policies in Washington that safeguard our officers and ensure they have the support they need to continue serving the communities that depend on them.”

This week, Congressman Fong attended a series of events, voted to advance important legislation, and met with Central Valley law enforcement officials in honor of backing the blue:

  • Attended Speaker Mike Johnson’s Candlelight Vigil to honor fallen officers alongside their grieving families.
  • Attended Majority Whip Tom Emmer’s “Pizza for Police,” where he shared lunch with hardworking agents.
  • Welcomed the Fresno Chapter of the Peace Officers Research Association of California to Washington.
  • Voted to advance the following legislation:
  • Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act: Requires the Attorney General to assemble reports of violence against law enforcement officers and the effectiveness of programs meant to provide law enforcement with wellness resources and protective equipment.
  • LEOSA Reform Act: Broadens the ability of qualified officers to carry concealed firearms in public, state, or federal properties.
  • Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act: Directs the General Services Administration to allow current and retired officers to buy their retired service weapons to protect those who are protecting our communities.

“Beyond the badge, law enforcement officers support local programs, mentor our youth, and respond in times of crisis,” said Congressman Fong. “They are more than protectors – they are trusted partners and neighbors. Thank you for your service.”
